La Speranza is honored to have been invited to perform as emerging artists in the Houston Early Music Festival in February! As a young ensemble, we rely on the support of our friends and family. This debut is an unexpected honor and we especially appreciate any and all donations to help make this happen! We invite you to be a part of this monumental debut by making a contribution today.

Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. — Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet: A Match Made in Music (La Speranza)

Houston’s newest period instrument ensemble introduces a new genre to the festival: chamber music from the Classical era. Join us for the music of Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, colleagues who inspired one another and remained the best of friends. And what better way to celebrate the day of love than with Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet and the basset clarinet d’amore! Historical clarinet virtuoso and builder Thomas Carroll joins La Speranza on his model of the instrument for which the quintet was intended. Midtown Arts and Theater Center, Houston (MATCH), 3400 Main Street, Houston TX 77002

ABOUT LA SPERANZA

La Speranza is a group of string and wind players that bring chamber music from the Baroque through the Romantic eras to Houston communities on period instruments. Founded in 2016 by Yvonne Smith and named after the Italian word for “hope”, La Speranza seeks to promote physical and emotional healing through their historically informed performances. In their first season, La Speranza appeared on the Memorial Classical Music Series and Houston Methodist Crain Garden Series. They also performed at Midtown Arts and Theater Center, Houston (MATCH), Christ the King Presbyterian Church and several support groups. Their 2017-2018 season, called "Mentors Inspire!", focuses on the role of mentors in our physical and emotional wellness through the works of Franz Joseph Haydn and his colleagues. The musicians of La Speranza, all connected to Houston by work or residence, are historical performance specialists and active performers in the United States and Europe.
