About The Project
Lewis’ mission is to inspire movement as a source of creativity, expression, healing and intelligence through physical exploration and research.
“Hueman” is a dance performance in development for Barn Storm Dance Festival 2020, which is based off of Lewis’ curiosities and experiences with colonization and domestication. She is striving to create a place, a piece of the world that no other “human” on earth has discovered. This speckle of a place, where it’s “Huemans’” are thriving in harmony with movement, sound and nature by creating a space where movement is inspired as a way of connecting with self, species, land and elements.
Born and raised in Houston, TX, Ty Lewis is an independent performing artist, choreographer, teacher and observer. Her interest in movement came at a young age, with her willingness to perform for her family and friends without hesitation. Ty’s professional training began in college, where she studied dance at San Jacinto College and Sam Houston State University, graduating and receiving her A.A as well as her B.F.A in dance. She is currently creating works locally in Houston, and has presented work for Dance Source Houston Artist in Residency, Houston Community College, San Jacinto College, CounterCurrent: Ten Tiny Dances, Sam Houston State University Dance Intensive, DSH: Mind the Gap, The Pilot Dance Project: Anything Goes, as well as set work for local high schools within the Houston area. Within her professional career as movement artist, she strives to create works that are honest and true to her experiences. She wishes to continue to share her voice within her work, teaching and performances, in hopes of influencing movement as a source of expression, creativity, healing and intelligence.
