Lawndale is a multidisciplinary contemporary art center that engages Houston communities with exhibitions and programs that explore the aesthetic, critical, and social issues of our time.
Lawndale seeks a motivated, exceptionally organized exhibition coordinator to provide critical support for the exhibition, implementation, and installation for The Big Show, as well as the accompanying exhibition brochure and public programs. The person in this position will work closely with the Assistant Director and The Big Show juror and report to the Executive Director. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the field of exhibition planning by gaining first-hand experience working with contemporary artists working in the Greater Houston area.
About The Big Show: The Big Show is an ambitious open-call juried competition of artists practicing within a 100-mile radius of Lawndale that reflects our commitment to supporting local and regional artists at various stages in their career.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Desire to work on a small, committed team, to work cooperatively and effectively with others and to remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
-Be responsible, punctual, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently.
-Manage applications / submissions via Submittable and respond to inquiries as needed.
-Prepare loan forms and oversee shipping arrangements: packing, delivery, and transportation.
-Manage images and checklist information, and respond to press inquiries.
-Support Assistant Director with all correspondence and documentation related to The Big Show.
-Have reliable access to your own transportation.
-Due to the varied tasks associated with operating an art gallery, the following physical activities may be required: climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling and lifting (up to 20 lbs).
-Demonstrated interest in contemporary art, previous research experience, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.
-Degree Preferred: B.A./M.A. (art history, arts management, museum studies or a related field a plus)
-Two (2) years relevant experience in a gallery, museum, or non-profit. Experience with exhibition coordination and installation preferred.
