Proposal for Art Exhibitions
The Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston (IHCH), a non-profit organization founded in 1965, is one of the oldest Hispanic organizations in the city of Houston. This year the Institute invites local artists to participate in the selection of annual exhibitions at the IHCH gallery located in the Upper Kirby district, 3315 Sul Ross St., Houston, Texas 77098.
The IHCH Art and Exhibitions Committee meets annually to review the presentations for the current year. This year the selection of the exhibition proposals will be juried by the artist Betirri Bengtson.
The deadline to submit an application proposal is March 30 for exhibitions beginning in April 2020.

Artists of all media and genres are encouraged to apply.
(Painting, engraving, sculpture, glass, fiber, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, new genres)
Applications will be reviewed for exhibition consideration during the year 2020.
Artists can submit more than one application.
The exact duration of the exhibition can vary from 3 to 6 weeks.
The selected artist or artistic group is committed to personally attend the reception.
Artists may be invited to a recorded interview and / or panel discussion about their exhibition.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Artists who produce contemporary art in any medium and who live or work in Houston can present exhibition proposals.
Any existing work must have been completed in the last 3 years to be considered.
Proposals that link with the Hispanic / Latin American culture and that specifically take into account the IHCH exhibition space are encouraged.
Artists whose proposals are selected and who decide to participate are expected to undertake the planning and conceptualization of their exhibition, with the feedback and guidance of the coordinator of IHCH.
Value $ 10.
– Non refundable. Free for IHCH members. Each application corresponds to one (1) artistic proposal (individual or group).
They are required to complete and send all the requested information and pay via PayPal the registration fee.
THE JURY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT ANY INCOMPLETE PROPOSAL OR PRESENTED INAPPROPRIATELY.
IHCH will provide artistic and curatorial support to artists.
We will promote the exhibition using: printed postcards and posters, social networks, blog posts and press broadcast.
They will provide labor and materials to install and uninstall the artwork.
They will transport the work to and from IHCH.
They will participate in the inaugural reception and other proposed events.

HOW TO APPLY? WHAT MATERIALS SHOULD I SEND?
1. Statement of the artist or artists (group). 1 page, max.
2. CV / Biography. 3 pages, max.
3. Exhibition proposal. 2 pages, max.
Describe what you plan to do, how you will do it and what you hope to achieve with the exhibition. Include information in your proposal about how this project or body of works adapts well to the IHCH gallery and / or what IHCH space you think would best fit the proposal.
4. Work samples. Send 10 images; 4 minutes of recorded materials; or 6 images and 2 minutes of recorded material
5. List with the names of the works sent, including the title, the dimensions, the medium, the price or the value of the insurance, and the year of creation of each piece.

While the Hispanic Culture Institute in Houston offers free space to support the arts, we are a nonprofit cultural institution and we are grateful for donations from the public. Traditionally, artists donate 20% of their sales to IHCH.
The inaugurations take place more frequently on the Saturday following the installation, from 4 to 7 pm.
The final plans for the reception must be made by the artist with the project coordinator, Mariela G. Domínguez, no later than 10 days before the scheduled reception date. In the event of any unforeseen event, IHCH will be responsible for offering a timely response and resolution.
