The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) is a legacy organization investing in the Latino heritage of this nation. For over 28 years, NALAC has built a strong foundation for the promotion of Latinx arts and culture and its advocacy efforts have advanced issues of cultural equity and raised the visibility and understanding of Latinx artistic and cultural expression. To this end, NALAC makes strategic investments to bolster leadership development, grow networks and partnerships and provide financial resources for those front-line artists and organizations involved in effecting change through arts and culture.
Chief Advancement Officer
We are recruiting a Chief Advancement Officer to develop and manage diverse resource development strategies. As the lead strategist for fund development, the Officer will help to create a multi-year plan for increasing revenue, which informs and supports the organization’s plans for revenue growth in the next three years. The Chief Advancement Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the development strategy, achieving fundraising goals, engaging sponsors, leveraging key relationships and contacts to ensure meeting NALAC’s revenue goal. The Director of Development will be the primary person responsible for day to day management of all fundraising activities and for hands-on implementation and conclusion of the fundraising plans, which includes major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, grant solicitation, and in-kind resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a written plan for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding foundation, individual and corporate support
- Set and achieve annual and multi-year revenue goals
- Write foundation, corporate, federal, state, and city grant proposals and submit all grant reports.
- Develop and implement written individual donor strategies based on donor capacity and readiness to give
- Manage donor portfolio
- Solicit and close, by second year of employment, at least 10 major gifts
- Support the President and CEO’s major gift work with top prospects.
- Support the President and CEO in working with the Board Development Committee.
- Supervise all donor database functions (gift entry; database management; report generation, donor cultivation & stewardship, and prospect research)
- Develop a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
- Direct Annual Appeals
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage the performance of and the retention of fund development staff according to organization protocols
- Serve as a vital member of the leadership team
- Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization
- Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality in accordance with NALAC policies
- Produce accurate and timely reports and queries with great attention to detail.
- Communicate directly with the public; this includes representing the organization to public, government, and other external sources; receiving guests at the office, exchanging information in person, in writing, by telephone or e-mail.
- Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Be accountable for project plans, timelines, project tracking and due dates on assigned projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required with at least 5 years of development experience
- A proven track record in Development and Fundraising
- A proven track record as a grant writer
- A proven track record as a major gift fundraiser
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Demonstrated personal solicitation success
- Valid US driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, databases, social media, mapping software, and other technology
- Demonstrated ability to interact well with individuals and communities from a diverse range of cultures, incomes, and other demographic characteristics
- Professional demeanor and attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated problem-solving abilities, with a strong attention to detail
- Must work well individually and as part of a team
- Reliability, punctuality, and ability to meet deadlines
- Absolute discretion and confidentiality
- A participative work style and the ability to receive feedback
- Computer skills, including email and virtual conference applications, Microsoft Office suite and other online documents, such as Google Docs

The Chief Advancement Officer is a salaried, full time, exempt position and is expected to provide 40 hours per week operating during standard business hours, Monday through Friday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Busy times may entail additional evening and weekend work or shifting of the standard schedule and location.Compensation will be determined based on experience.
Job Location and Travel
The position is based in San Antonio and requires the Chief Advancement Officer to travel to the NALAC National Office, located at 1208 Buena Vista Street. Some out of state and national travel may be required.
