Writefest Keynote Reading at Brazos Bookstore

Writefest: A Literary Journal Festival for Emerging Writers

Join us for an evening with our Writefest 2017 keynote speakers, award-winning authors Ken Liu and Kelly Luce. The reading will take place on Friday, March 10th at 7 pm, at Brazos Bookstore. Both authors will read from their work, answer audience questions during a following Q&A, and stay for a book-signing (books by both authors will be available at Brazos).

About the authors: 
Ken Liu is an author and translator of speculative fiction, as well as a lawyer and programmer. A winner of the Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy awards, he has been published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Asimov’s, Analog,Clarkesworld, Lightspeed, and Strange Horizons, among other places.
Ken’s debut novel, The Grace of Kings (2015), is the first volume in a silkpunk epic fantasy series, The Dandelion Dynasty. It won the Locus Best First Novel Award and was a Nebula finalist. He subsequently published the second volume in the series, The Wall of Storms(2016) as well as a collection of short stories, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories (2016).
In addition to his original fiction, Ken is also the translator of numerous literary and genre works from Chinese to English. His translation of The Three-Body Problem, by Liu Cixin, won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2015, the first translated novel ever to receive that honor. He also translated the third volume in Liu Cixin’s series, Death’s End (2016) and edited the first English-language anthology of contemporary Chinese science fiction,Invisible Planets (2016).
He lives with his family near Boston, Massachusetts.
​Kelly Luce grew up in Brookfield, Illinois. After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in cognitive science, she moved to Japan, where she lived and worked for three years.
​Her work has been recognized by fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Ucross Foundation, Sozopol Fiction Seminars, Ragdale Foundation, the Kerouac Project, and Jentel Arts, and has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Salon, O, the Oprah Magazine, Electric Literature, Crazyhorse, The Southern Review, and other publications. She received an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers at UT Austin in 2015 and lives in Santa Cruz, CA.
She is a contributing editor for Electric Literature and a 2016-17 fellow at Harvard's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies. Her debut novel, Pull Me Under, was published in 2016 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Writefest is a week-long writers festival taking place March 6-12th, 2017 in Houston, TX. It is hosted by Writespace, Houston's grassroots nonprofit literary arts center.
