Sweat of th Sun

Opening Reception: January 30, 2015, 6:00 - 8:00pm

MECA's first exhibition of 2015 features new work by MECA's Visual Art Director and Curator, distinguished artist Grace Zuñiga. Zuñiga took inspiration from an Incan reference to gold as "sweat of the sun" in terms of materials and color palette. In this exhibition of her work, she explores the innate materiality of paper fibers, thread, metal, and resin, by manipulating materials in order to reassign formal structures and applications.

Zuñiga has exhibited both nationally and internationally in venues such as The Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas; The Sharjah Gallery in Cairo, Egypt; and, recently, solo exhibitions throughout Houston. In 2014 she completed a 9-month residency at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and teaches courses in Studio Art at Houston Community College - Central and the Museum of Fine Arts, Glassell Studio School.
