Street art is seemingly everywhere we look these days. Whether it's in the form of graffiti, stickers, posters or installations, there is often a controversy associated with it. These two films showcase different types of street art, the artists behind them, and the people that oppose this kind of art.
Stick 'Em Up! directed by Houstonian Alex Luster, and presented by Shoot. Edit. Sleep. & Stone Kanyon Productions in collaboration with Aerosol Warfare, delves into the mind and motivations behind some of Houston's most notorious guerilla street artists, capturing the lifespan of their work... conception, creation, placement, and - ultimately - removal by the city's abatement enforcement.
VIGILANTE VIGILANTE: The Battle for Expression chronicles a new breed of crime-fighter that now stalks the urban landscape: the anti-graffiti vigilante - dedicated to rid their neighborhoods and cities of street art, stickers, tags and posters. Yes in their relentless attempt to stamp out graffiti, they have turned to illegally and destructively painting other people's property.
In addition to screening the two films, there will be a pop-up gallery featuring prints for sale by two of the artists featured in Stick 'Em Up! - Give Up and DUAL. Come hungry for food trucks, and thirsty for Saint Arnold brews.
Sponsored by Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow Cinema and Saint Arnold Brewery.
