A New Public Art Installation on Lyons Avenue

pleased to announce a new public art installation by artist Patrick
Turk. It will be unveiled in a celebration from 6-9pm on Saturday, June 7
at Mystic Lyon, 5017 Lyons Avenue, Houston, TX 77020. The installation will remain on view through October 31. 2017.

Turk's installation, The Demiurge, is a large-scale, full color collage
with sections built out into three-dimensions and highlighted with LED
lights. Turk describes The Demiurge as "the builder of the Universe and
all things material. It
is the force through which Everything is conceived and created. It is
atomic and molecular. It is liquid, gas, and solid. It is bacteria,
amoeba, and fungi. It is plants, animals and all of us."

Patrick Turk is a recipient of an Individual Artist Grant Award. This
grant is funded by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

Quasi-scientist and self-taught artist, Patrick Turk explores the
mysteries of the universe in his highly detailed and imaginative
hand-cut paper assemblages. Images taken from any number of resources
including: science-fiction novels, encyclopedias, history and scientific
diagrams, are cut and assembled in oftentimes multidimensional surfaces
to create a curious and dark narrative. Says Turk, “The intense levels
of detail become a microcosm, forming a reflection of the human
relationship to the plasticity of time and space, and to the process of

Patrick Turk was born in Galveston, Texas and lives and works in
Houston. His assemblages have been exhibited throughout Houston in
galleries including Art Storm, Lawndale Art Center and
Rudolph/Projects/Art Scan as well as galleries in Galveston, Texas and
Los Angeles, California. In 2013, he was an Art in Residence at the
Lawndale Art Center. His works have been published several times in Mung Being Magazine
and include high profile commissions for the 2009 Houston Art Car
Parade Poster as well as the Philokalia album cover by Golden
Cities. Patrick Turk will be one of 60 artists included in the
forthcoming book, The Art of Found Objects: Interviews with Texas Artists (Texas
A&M Press), authored by Robert Craig Bunch, and released in the
fall of 2016. He will also be featured in the concurrent exhibition, The Art of Found Objects, held at Lone Star College – Kingwood in November 2016. (from Cris Worley Fine Arts)



Lyon is an installation art space and social sculpture in Houston's
historic Fifth Ward. Installations remain on view in and on the windows
24 hours a day. Additional programming includes pay phone call-ins to
the artists, physical and metaphysical happenings, community coffees,
events benefiting neighbor endeavors and weekly organic produce shares
from Central City Co-op. It is also the home of the Fifth Ward Badminton
