The Art Institute of Houston is 1 of over 80 participating spaces for FotoFest 2018 Biennial. Stop by to witness the incredible works by photgrapher Ciming Mei from March 23 - April 21, 2018. The opening reception of Mei's My Journey with Cranes will be held on March 23rd from 6-8pm. The presentation will begin at 7 PM.
Cranes are symbols of love and longevity in Asia. There are 15 species of cranes on Earth, only 2 species live in North America, but 9 species can be found in China, where photographer C. Mei is originally from. Currently a Houston resident, Mei has been photographing for more than two decades. In 2015, she was interviewed by the British media for her photograph of a red-crowned crane fighting against an invading eagle in Hokkaido, Japan. The story along with the series of photos appeared in major British newspapers including Guardian, Times, and later was chosen as Editor's Choice on National Geography's web site. She has since been photographing cranes non-stop. In her efforts to capture the beauty of the cranes, she has embarked on a journey to trace her roots back to China while discovering the wonders of nature.
