Title:  Museum Shop Sales Associate

Museum Shop Sales Associate is a non-exempt, part-time member of the Museum’s staff who assists in the operations of The Museum Shop. She/he has considerable primary customer contact and is responsible for the quality of customer service rendered to the Museum’s visitors while she/he is on duty. The employee is responsible for the Shop’s general appearance while on duty and may assist with data entry and other inventory-related tasks. The position involves significant weekend and evening hours including public and private events that occur outside regular Museum hours. The Museum Shop provides an educational service for visitors to Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, supplementing the Museum’s programs that further the public’s understanding of contemporary art and for generating income to help it carry out its mission.

The Director of Contemporary Art Museum Houston reports to the Board of Trustees of the Museum. In this role, the Director has authority over all aspects of CAMH, including refining strategic vision, artistic and programmatic direction, developing budgets, fundraising, and overall advocacy for CAMH’s mission in Houston and beyond. The successful candidate must be a visionary, innovative, inspiring, and fiscally responsible leader with a passion for contemporary art. The new Director will be a dynamic and innovative leader who is eager to step into this position during a pivotal moment of transition for CAMH. Under this Director’s guidance CAMH will increase its leadership role and visibility as an inclusive and engaging artistic player, refining and cementing the unique space and impact the Museum creates in this community. Implicit within this will be the Director’s ability to draw upon their expertise in contemporary art, as well as knowledge of and connectivity to national and international communities of artists and other contemporary art institutions, to heighten CAMH’s impact, focus, and reputation. 

The successful candidate will raise the Museum’s profile by strongly articulating a future vision and building on the current strategic plan and corresponding momentum in order to further evolve CAMH’s programming and exhibitions. Critical to the Director’s success will be the ability to fundraise effectively in coordination with the Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will have a track record of approaching resource-building with significant creativity and clarity of purpose. They will promote senior staff talent and expertise in support of the Museum’s goals and will encourage curators and others to take an active role in representing the institution. Ensuring a wide range of donors feel included and involved, the new Director will increase and diversify financial support from individual donors, foundations, corporations and, where relevant, government funders, for annual operations, future capital projects, and growth of the Museum’s endowment.

The Director of Development is a full-time, exempt member of the senior administrative staff and provides leadership, direction, and coordination of the Museum’s Development Department. The Director of Development is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of Museum support programs for the purpose of attaining the financial goals set by the Director and the Board of Trustees. The Director of Development takes an active role in donor relations; administers the Development Department; ensures accuracy and timeliness of reports to funding sources and the Board of Trustees; assumes a leadership position in strategic and long-range planning; and contributes to the development and implementation of policies to insure that the Museum’s fundraising efforts reinforce and support its mission. The Director of Development may oversee various special projects that enhance and assist with institutional goals.

Title:  Gallery Attendant

A Gallery Attendant is a part-time, non-exempt member of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s staff. A critical member of the Museum’s protective staff, the position has as its primary responsibility the safety and security of works of art on view in the Museum. A Gallery Attendant represents the Museum to its visitors both assuring the safety and security of works of art and as an occasional relief contact at the Museum’s Visitor Information Desk. A Gallery Attendant shares a flexible schedule with others on the Gallery Attendant staff that is based around the Museum’s regular public hours, including evenings and weekends. A Gallery Attendant will also be assigned duty during private events that occur outside regular public hours. The uniformed employee has a significant role at the institution and represents the Museum and its mission to the general public.
