Boldface Conference

Boldface Conference

A conference for emerging writers.

Boldface was founded in 2009 by the editors of Glass Mountain, the undergraduate literary magazine at the University of Houston. Our goal is to give emerging writers an experience that is usually available only to professional writers: several days of intense focus on the craft of writing through workshops, readings, and craft talks.

Boldface will be held from May 22nd - May 26th, 2017, at the MD Anderson Library at University of Houston.

Includes:

  • Workshops
  • Readings
  • Craft talks
  • Manuscript consultations
  • Panels
  • Book fair
  • Networking
  • And more!

Each year, Boldface features three remarkable visiting writers to represent writing in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. This year, our visiting writers will be Bill Broun for fiction, Leah Lax for non-fiction, and Hayan Charara for poetry. These writers will have readings, talks, and attendees may also pay to have a manuscript consultation with visiting writers as well.

Attendees are also invited to enter their work in the Robertson Prize, a competition specifically for Boldface attendees. Each year participants may submit any prose and poetry workshopped during the conference to the Robertson Prize. Winners will receive cash prizes and publication in the Fall 2017 issue of Glass Mountain.

Shared on-campus housing and manuscript consultations with 2017 visiting writers are available on a limited basis for additional fees. Group registration is also available.
