FRESH FRIDAYS: UH Dance Ensemble, Travesty Dance Group, Aurora Picture Show

Join us for a series of collaborations culminating in an one entire thrilling evening of dance! UH Dance Ensemble will feature outstanding student choreography andTravesty Dance Group takes the stage with their athletic, visual work "Green," in honor of the new park green. Then at 8:00p.m., Aurora Picture SHOW presents an outdoor screening of THE COST OF LIVING by Choreographer/Director Lloyd Newson of London´s famed DV8 Physical Theater. The film was the Jury Winner in the 2005 Dance on Camera Festival.

Buffalo Bayou ArtPark (BBAP) is pleased to present a new public art project by artist Mel Ziegler, Downtown Mixer. Downtown Mixer is a project that responds to the architectural barriers created by high-rise buildings in the modern downtown. These mirrored boxes contain people who work across the street from each other, but never see or get to know each other. Downtown Mixer is a collective/social event meant to bring people together, and to "mix" things up.

The night will include pinewood derby racing, games, entertainment, and a silent auction.

Kathy Kelley: Suckling is Continuous

Buffalo Bayou ArtPark (BBAP) and Heights Beautification Project (HBP) are pleased to present a year-long art installation by local artist Kathy Kelley at Freed Art and Nature Park located at the corner of Houston Ave and White Oak Blvd. Kelley was commissioned to create a piece of site specific art that embodied the ideas of sustainability and recycling, and will be unveiled on February 9, 2008 as part of the 5th annual Green Valentine Tree Planting.

Vitiello´s latest project, Four Color Sound, combines modulated light and audio tracks that morph and shift in subtle ways, transforming the gallery space into a virtual meditation chamber.

She builds intimate and absurd narratives to animate the ways that fear, regret, grief, horror, and humiliation play themselves out before and after the fact, shifting in and out of consciousness, repeating endlessly, and being re-made along the way.

Charles "Teenie" Harris: Rhapsody in Black and White

Rhapsody in Black and White is part of a collaborative project between Blaffer, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, DiverseWorks, and the Society for the Performing Arts (SPA). Co-curated by world-renowned choreographer Ronald K. Brown and leading photographic arts expert Deborah Willis, it features the work of African-American photojournalist Charles "Teenie" Harris, who worked at the Pittsburgh Courier from 1936 to 1975.
